In his will, President Ho Chi Minh identified the responsibility of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) in the international communist movement. He wrote: I hope that our Party will do its best to contribute effectively to the restoration of unity among the fraternal Parties on the basis of Marxism - Leninism and proletarian internationalism, in a way which conforms to both reason and sentiment.” He expressed his firm confidence that the fraternal Parties and countries will reunite.”

Linking national fate with humanity

Upholding President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, the Communist Party of Vietnam has striven to heal and foster unity in the international communist movement. Former Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum Chu Duc Tinh said: “Our Party has done its best for the international communist movement and fraternal Parties. The Party has insisted on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought during the successful renewal process. It’s a practical action to protect the international communist movement.

Over the past 45 years, in every policy and action, the CPV has always tried to enhance international unity and relations with other countries. Once an isolated and sanctioned country, Vietnam has integrated deeply in the global arena in all aspects of politics, economics, culture, and society. Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with more than 180 countries and trade relations with more than 200 countries and territories. Vietnam has joined several international forums and organizations and made significant contributions to the UN and ASEAN.  By making an effort to develop its national economy, culture, and society and maintain political stability, Vietnam has played a role in building a stable and prosperous world.

Enhancing peace, cooperation, and development

Despite global complications and new trends in workers’ movements, the CPV has followed an unswerving external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and development, diversifying external relations and pursuing international integration, being a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community. Pham Ngoc Anh, an official from the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, says: “We expect that the Communist Party of Vietnam will make the world better understand our nation. People who attempt to oppose us will understand more clearly. Based on harmonized interests, we can minimize disputes and turn confrontation into peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations.

Implementing President Ho Chi Minh’s will, the Vietnamese Party, people, and soldiers are determined to maintain a peaceful environment, boost industrialization and modernization, firmly protect national independence, sovereignty, unification, and territorial integrity, and raise national status. Associate Professor Pham Xuan My of the Party history faculty of the Academy of Journalism and Communications says: “Our task is to control the economy for peaceful development. The Party has to be strong and the people have to unite to survive this difficult period. President Ho Chi Minh said when we are strong, we have the power to defend our nation. If we are not strong, we are a tool in others’ hands.”

President Ho Chi Minh’s thought on international unity on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism has been wisely applied by the CPV over the past 45 years. It will continue a guiding star for Vietnam in its international integration process to become a reliable partner of countries worldwide.
