At the first government meeting for the 2016-2020 tenure, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the government and each cabinet member set an example in practicing thrift and preventing waste, especially in using state cars and organizing meetings. He said he would set an example by not buying a new car. To demonstrate his resolve, on October 28, the Prime Minister booked a commercial flight to Bangkok to pay tribute to the passing of the Thai King.

The Prime Minister has asked the government officials to take a maximum of 3 escort cars when conducting missions to localities. In the face of growing public debt, the Prime Minister said he will minimize the number of meetings, parties, ground breaking or inauguration ceremonies, overseas trips,  and the use of state vehicles.

During his first 100 days in office, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has been transforming the government from a directing and managing role into a constructing and serving role.
