Improving efficiency of international economic integration

(VOVworld)- A national conference to review policies and guidelines to ensure Vietnam’s rapid and sustainable economic growth within the World Trade Organisation opened in Hanoi Tuesday. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told the conference that Vietnam’s international economic integration is the key to Vietnam’s international integration in the near future.

In five years, Resolution 08-NQ/TW, which sets out policies and guidelines for ensuring Vietnam’s rapid and sustainable economic growth as a WTO member, has achieved notable results, including making the Party, army and people more aware of the importance of international economic integration. Vietnam has embraced its commitments in joining the WTO and has fine-tuned its legal system and economic mechanisms in line with the principles and regulations of the World Trade Organization. The country has strengthened those market factors that will increase the competitive edge of its enterprises and products. Over the past five years, Vietnam has worked energetically to integrate itself globally, has been proactive in regional and global value chains, has expanded its markets, has fine-tuned its growth model, and has worked hard within ASEAN to realize the goal of an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015. In addition, the country is conducting negotiations or is preparing to negotiate some significant free trade agreements including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and a free trade agreement with the EU. It has also implemented ASEAN’s Framework on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. "Vietnam’s economic achievements over the past 5 years are recognizable. The economy keeps growing despite the impacts of the global economic crisis and recession. The scale of the Vietnamese economy has increased and the country has escaped from its less developed country status to become a middle income earning country. Despite unpredictable economic fluctuations in the world and the impacts of a prolonged global financial crisis and recession, the Vietnamese economy has grown steadily for the past five years. The export market has expanded, products have been diversified, and FDI has increased. From 2007 to 2012, many high-tech projects have been undertaken in Vietnam. Agricultural production has been maintained, helping to ensure public welfare, social order and national security. Many economic sectors have been sustained despite fierce competition resulting from WTO entry", said PM Dung..

Vietnam is now preparing for a new period of even greater international economic integration. To this end, it is trying to build an independent and self-reliant economy. At the same time, Vietnam is pursuing an external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, growth, multi-lateralization, and diversification of relations. Vietnam is a good friend, reliable partner, and responsible member in the international community, always working to create a peaceful and stable environment and facilitate national development. "In its international economic integration in the near future, Vietnam’s ultimate goal is to ensure its national interests. Therefore, it’s necessary to successfully implement the national construction platform in the transitional period to socialism and national socio-economic development strategy till 2020. On the other hand, Vietnam is strengthening international economic integration to promote national interests and successfully implement the national development platform adopted at the 11th National Party Congress. While implementing this national socio-economic development strategy, it’s important to focus on adjusting the growth model and restructuring the economy to boost international economic integration", said PM Dung

Vietnam’s international economic integration in the near future will be connected with its socio-economic renovation.  By strengthening international economic integration, Vietnam wants to enhance bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation, raise its prestige in the world, and develop new partnerships for national interests. Vietnam plans to ensure independence, self-reliance, national sovereignty, and security during the integration process.
