Kong: Skull Island tops box office

(VOVworld) - Kong: Skull Island, a 2017 American monster film which delivers a message about environmental protection and harmony between humans and animals is a worldwide hit. The film follows a team of scientists and soldiers who travel to an uncharted island in the Pacific and encounter terrifying creatures and the mighty Kong.

The Hollywood blockbuster is being praised for its marvelous effects, eye-catching action, cinematography, editing, and music. Kong, the cinematic creature, exists in a wild ecosystem and is beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Kong: Skull Island was shot in northern Vietnam. Scenes shot at Ha Long Bay, the Trang An ecological complex, and Son Dong Cave look gorgeous.

Premiering on March 10 worldwide, the film grossed 2.7 million USD after 3 days in Vietnam. It beat Fast&Furious 7 to set a new weekend box office record in Vietnam. The 190 million USD film will continue to earn more this weekend.

In the US, Kong: Skull Island overwhelmed rivals with a mighty 61 million USD debut to nab the weekend box office spot, pushing Logan from first to second place and Get Out  to third place.

Internationally, the film earned 142 million USD in all markets last week. Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ film is projected to gross much more after its debut in China on March 24. Since the first King Kong movie appeared 84 years ago, the giant ape has made 10 movie comebacks and all eyes are now on the latest edition in his legendary franchise.
