Nguyen Du Culture-Tourism Week to open in Ha Tinh

(VOVworld)- A Culture and Tourism Week will open on Saturday in Ha Tinh province to mark poet Nguyen Du’s 250th birth anniversary. Activities will be held to honor Nguyen Du’s life and career and introduce Ha Tinh’s tangible and intangible cultural values.

The great Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du was born in 1765 in Tien Dien village, Nghi Xuan, Ha Tinh. He was recognized as one of the world’s cultural celebrities by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for his work "The tale of Kieu" and other literary masterpieces.

Activities to be held during the Nguyen Du Culture and Tourism Week will honor his great contributions to Vietnamese literature. Highlights of the week are the opening program featuring the theme “Returning to the holy land” and  a drama competition on Nguyen Du’s life and career for secondary schools.  There will also be a folk singing festival of the north-central region, a display of the Tale of Kieu, recitals of poems masterpieces by Nguyen Du which were translated into more than 20 languages; screening documentary films about Nguyen Du’s life, career and family; and an award ceremony for the sixth Nguyen Du Literature and Arts competition. A national ceremony to mark the 250th birth anniversary of Nguyen Du will be held on December 5. Nguyen Hai Nam is President of Nghi Xuan district’s People’s Committee: “Preparation for the event has been completed. The activities will be held in the central square and district cultural centers. We have upgraded roads to the Nguyen Du relic site. Arts and singing activities are being rehearsed. The district has set up steering committees for communications and ensuring order and security for this event”.

On this occasion, activities to promote tangible and intangible cultural values of Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province will also be held. Mr. Nam again:“Nghi Xuan district has several tangible and intangible cultural heritages. We aim to develop tourism as our spearhead economic sector. We have strengthened the preservation and promotion of local cultural heritages. We are working with travel companies to promote local art genres”
