Pursuing broader international integration foreign policy

(VOVworld)- President Tran Dai Quang has paid an official visit to Cuba, attended the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit, made a state visit to Italy, visited the Vatican, and attended the 16th Francophonie Summit in Madagascar. His trip is aimed at realizing Vietnam’s international integration policy.

Strengthening close bond, special trust with Cuba

President Tran Dai Quang’s official visit to Cuba from November 15 to 17 took place after the two countries successfully organized national Party congresses and adopted new guidelines and policies for national construction and defense. This was Mr. Quang’s first visit to the western hemisphere as President. He was warmly welcomed by the Cuban leaders and people. During the visit, leaders of the two countries agreed to deepen the friendship and comprehensive cooperation. They agreed on major directions for future bilateral ties and strengthened trade and economic bilateral cooperation.

Furthering Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership

During his visit to Italy from November 21 to 24, President Tran Dai Quang held talks and met with high-ranking and local Italian leaders and representatives from left wing parties. The two sides affirmed their determination to boost current cooperation mechanisms to raise bilateral trade from the current 4.3 billion USD to 6 billion USD by 2018. They pledged to support each other and work closely at multilateral forums. Italy supported Vietnam’s enhanced cooperation and a free trade agreement with the EU.

President Tran Dai Quang also visited the Vatican and met Pope Francis and Italian Prime Minister Pietro Parolin. At the meetings, they praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and its efforts to fine-tune policies on freedom of religion and belief. They agreed to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between Vietnam and the Vatican.

Vietnam to host APEC 2017

President Tran Dai Quang attended the 24th APEC Summit in Lima, Peru from November 17 to 20. As host of the next APEC Summit, President Quang said Vietnam will work with other APEC economies to make APEC Year 2017 successful and to promote peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. President Quang said that after attending APEC Summit in Vietnam, delegates will better understand Vietnam, its land, its people, and its development.

Vietnam’s role in the French speaking community

President Tran Dai Quang attended the 6th Francophone Summit from November 26 to 27. Addressing the event, President Tran Dai Quang, delivered a message promoting cooperation, unity, peace, stability and sustainable development, and called on the Francophone community to help build a world of peace and equality. President Quang share Vietnam’s lessons on comprehensive reform and maintaining political stability and socio-economic growth. On the sidelines of the summit, President Quang held bilateral meetings with leaders of the host country, Madagascar, and met the Francophone Secretary General and leaders of several countries to discuss bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and investment.

President Tran Dai Quang’s recent foreign relations activities have strengthened Vietnam’s relations with other countries and demonstrated Vietnam’s broader participation in addressing global challenges.
