Tree planting festival 2017

(VOVworld)- The tree planting festival is very popular in northern Vietnam when spring comes. This year, the festival was launched with a call to protect and ensure sustainable forest growth.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee launched a tree planting festival last Thursday. Speaking at the launch, President Tran Dai Quang called on Vietnamese people to plant trees and prevent deforestation to boost economic growth and improve people’s living standards.

At the launch of a tree planting festival in Hanoi last Saturday, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said this year’s festival aims to mobilize social resources to urban development and realize Hanoi’s target of planting 1 million trees by 2020. He asked local administrations, the Fatherland Front, and social organizations to join this effort. Hai said planting trees will make the city greener and more beautiful and reduce the impact of climate change. Hai stressed the importance of increasing the public commitment to protecting trees.

This year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development called for protecting and ensuring sustainable forest development. According to the Ministry, afforestation protects the environment and creates profits. Cao Chi Cong is Deputy Director of the General Department of Forestry: “We assigned the Departments of Agriculture to work with the Provincial People’s Committee to prepare good seedlings and help the public plant trees during the festival and throughout the year to increase green coverage and boost forests and profit.”

Mr. Cong said the General Department of Forestry has asked localities to ensure and control the quality of seedlings used in tree planting festivals and afforestation,
