By this time of the year, most tours offered by Vietravel Company to Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Con Dao island are fully booked, thanks to the company’s special year-end promotions. Customers signing up for these tours receive discounts up to 150 USD package. Luu Thu Mai is head of Viettravel’s marketing division: "Vietnamese tourists enjoy going to hot regions for winter vacations. They often go to Nha Trang, Phu Quoc island and Con Dao at this time of year. Phu Quoc and Con Dao are two new popular destinations for visitors with standard tourist services because of their many natural scenic spots and delicious food."

Ms. Mai said a new direct air route between Hanoi and Phu Quoc has made it more convenient for travelers to get to the island: "Air Mekong has opened a direct air route between Hanoi and Phu Quoc and this has helped travelers save a lot of time for their vacations. They can easily fly to the island on Friday and come back on Sunday."

Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island. It is considered the pearl of Vietnam for its beautiful scenery and abundant marine resources. The island is an ideal place for visitors to explore nature, go sight-seeing, fish, swim or go scuba-diving. Phung Xuan Mai is General Director of the Saigon-Phu Quoc resort: "The resort was built in 1999 and was the first hotel on Phu Quoc island. It has played a very important role in attracting investment to the island. Starting from just 3 flights/per week to the island in 2000, there are now 24 flights a week in peak season."

Mr. Mai says visitors can enjoy a wide range of tourist products on the island:"We focus on marine and ecological tourism activities such as fishing, swimming, and diving. We also organize trekking and adventure tours in the mountains."

Huynh Van Hung, Head of the ecological division of Con Dao National Park’s Management Board, says that the number of visitors to Con Dao island has increased dramatically this year: "Historical and ecological tourism are the most popular here. In addition to swimming and mountain climbing, visitors to Con Dao can get close to nature by watching migratory birds building nests or tortoises giving birth."
