(VOVworld) – In recent years, the movement calling on the Vietnamese to prioritize made-in-Vietnam goods has helped domestic enterprises identify the potential and strength of the local market. The program has particularly improved product quality in order to change Vietnamese consumers’ buying habits and boost sales of local goods.

Since the movement was launched 8 years ago, the national economy has strongly grown in production, competitiveness, and supply and demand.

Made-in-Vietnam products are gaining market share and Vietnamese consumers have growing confidence in domestic goods.

In Can Tho City, for instance, 95% of goods in supermarkets, trading centers, and traditional markets, are made in Vietnam. Last year, Can Tho’s total of retail goods and services reached 4.2 billion USD, thanks to increased advertising.

Dinh Trung Truc, Vice President of the Can Tho Fatherland Front, says that the front “will increase our supervision of the use of Vietnamese medicines by private medical facilities. Focus will also be on managing agricultural materials, because counterfeit goods are costing farmers money and lost effort. We’ll also supervise food hygiene and safety.”

The movement has helped consumers, organizers, and businesses more fully understand their responsibilities and interests, and as a result the number of people buying locally made items has risen.

To make the program more effective, domestic enterprises have asked the government for more policies incentivizing businesses to carry Vietnamese products.

Vietnam is fully integrating into the global economy where multilateral and bilateral free trade agreements will directly influence the growth of businesses.

Vietnam Fatherland Front President Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is also chief of the movement’s steering committee, says “When you buy Vietnamese goods, more Vietnamese people will be employed. Vietnamese people should know that their purchases create jobs so they should buy made-in-Vietnam items even if the price is a bit higher than for some imports.”
