These days, farmers of Tuy Loan safe vegetable cooperative in Hoa Phong commune, Hoa Vang district, are preparing the soil for the winter-spring crops. Since the implementation of the national new rural development program 3 years ago, they now have water piped to the fields, the fields have been rezoned and the roads connecting the fields are all paved, making their farm work easier and more productive. In addition to seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural materials, local farmers also receive technological assistance from the staff of the local agriculture center, who come to the fields to show them the best ways to grow safe vegetables, says Nguyen Dau, a resident of Hoa Phong: "Widened and paved roads have contributed significantly to improving our production and transport of agricultural products. This has really improved our living standards."

The model of safe vegetable production is just one of many production models funded by the national new rural development program in Hoa Vang district. Da Nang municipal authorities have created several policies to boost investment in new rural development in Hoa Vang district to upgrade the infrastructure, restructure agricultural production, and boost local incomes. Local cooperatives, agricultural production facilities, and farmers’ associations, have received funding from the municipal authorities to improve agricultural mechanization.

More and more family businesses specializing in floriculture, aquaculture, fungi-culture, or growing safe vegetable, have been established, resulting in more local jobs and better local living conditions. Local policies have won public trust and confidence in the national new rural development program. Many households have donated land, money, and labor to upgrade the local infrastructure and build community works. Tran Hoa, Deputy President of the Hoa Phong communal People’s Committee, told VOV: "People have shown their determination to contribute to the success of the national new rural development program. Some of them have even agreed to destroy recently built houses to make roads. Although our commune has fulfilled all of the program’s 19 criteria, we will keep striving to develop our area." Of 50 million USD allocated for new rural development in Hoa Vang district, local people have contributed approximately 2 million USD. Dang Phu Hanh, Deputy Chairman of Hoa Vang district’s People’s Committee, said: "Our district’s achievements are a result of wide and effective implementation of the national rural development program. The benefits can be seen in our upgraded infrastructure, reduced poverty rate, and increased incomes. Increasing numbers of people are even becoming well-off."
