16th Francophone Summit closes

(VOVworld) - The 16th Francophone Summit closed in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on Sunday, after two days of sitting. President Tran Dai Quang and leaders of the Francophone countries attended the event.

The summit ratified the Antananarivo Statement and 13 resolutions, set out orientation of the community in the coming time, in the fields of peace, security, anti-terrorism, language diversity and culture, economic cooperation, sustainable development, among others.

The leaders suggested the International Organization of La Francophonie strengthen its support to prevent and settle conflicts, reinforce peace and promote compliance to international law, including the principles to solve disputes with peaceful measures.

The Summit admitted New Caledonia (France) as an associate member and Argentina, the Republic of Korea, and Ontario (Canada) as observers, raising its total number of members and observers from 80 to 84.
