7th Vietnam Youth Federation national congress opens in Hanoi

(VOVworld) – The 7th Vietnam Youth Federation National Congress opened in Hanoi on Monday attended by Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, government leaders, and 800 youth representatives from across Vietnam. The congress will review the Federation’s activities during its 6th tenure from 2010 to 2014, and set out plans for the next 5 years. Nguyen Dac Vinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation, said: "The congress takes place as Vietnam is fulfilling tasks set in the 11th Party Congress’ resolution and finalizing preparations for the upcoming Party Congress. We believe that young people nationwide, with their determination and strong spirit, will unite and take the lead in national construction and defense, to make Vietnam a prosperous, democratic, equal, and civilized country." 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the youth’s important role as the country’s future masters. He said it’s necessary to promote youth’s vanguard role in obtaining national construction and defense targets: "One of the Vietnam Youth Federation’s major future tasks is promoting national unity by rallying young people nationwide and encouraging their contributions to national development by implementing Party and State guidelines and policies. It has been historically proven that any difficulties can be addressed with unity and consensus."

Mr. Trong called for more efforts to promote young people’s creativity, voluntarism, and huge potentials in national industrialization and modernization: "The Party and State believe in Vietnam’s younger generations. We hope that young people will uphold the fine traditions of their predecessors to follow the path set by President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people to further contribute to national development in the new context."

Delegates reviewed the implementation of resolutions of previous congresses and discussed plans until 2019. The congress called on young Vietnamese worldwide to respond to the campaign “I love my fatherland” which promotes young people’s patriotism by encouraging them to contribute their strength to national development.
