(VOVworld) – Thousands of foreign visitors have cancelled their trips to South Korea since the outbreak of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in the country.  

Cses of MERS infection in South Korea have hit 126 by Friday, when 4 more cases were identified.

According to the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), about 11,000 visitors from Taiwan and China have canceled tours to South Korea within Thursday alone.

84,000 foreign visitors have canceled tours to South Korea since the first case was announced on May 20th.

MERS causes high mortality rates and is considered to be related to severe acute respiratory syndrome,SARS, which killed hundreds of people 10 years ago.
