Activities to commemorate war martyrs and invalids

(VOVworld) – Various activities to mark the 67th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day took place nationwide to show gratitude to fallen soldiers and people who rendered great services to the nation.

On this occasion, Party Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, Tran Dai Quang, paid floral tribute and offered incense at the monument of heroic martyrs in Ninh Binh province on Sunday. He also visited and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers at a nursing centre for war invalids in Ninh Binh province’s Nho Quan commune.

The same day, a special art program entitled “Sacred Vietnam” was held in Hanoi to honour and pay tribute to heroic martyrs, war invalids and their families. Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen spoke at the event: "The show is expected to help educate younger Vietnamese people national patriotism and pride which would inspire us to further contribute to national development. I hailed the program organizers for various activities to pay tribute to the families of war martyrs and invalids."

On a Sunday TV program “People ask, ministers answer”, Minister Chuyen affirmed that Vietnam will continue to implement policies on people who rendered great services to the nation, adding that around 8.8 million of such people are enjoying the government’s preferential policies.

Also on Monday, a solemn requiem and a peace praying ceremony were held at Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi to commemorate war heroes and martyrs. Participants paid tribute to 19 soldiers of Air Force Regiment 916 of Air division 371 who lost their lives in a plane crash in Thach That commune on July 7. Hoang Hong Thanh is late Senior Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Lai Long’s wife: "I want to express my sincere thanks to the organizers and monks for holding this requiem and peace praying ceremony for the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation and those who died in the recent crash."

The President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan has praised Nam Dinh province for its good care for social beneficiaries. At a meeting with local authorities on Monday, Nhan suggested the province should review the implementation of state policies for social beneficiaries to make them more effective. Mr. Nhan also presented gifts and funding support to build compassion houses for 3 social beneficiaries in Y Yen, Nam Truc district and Nam Dinh city. On War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day, 30,000 social beneficiaries in Quang Binh province received gifts from the State President. Each gift is worth from 200,000 VND to 400,000 VND. Quang Binh province also revealed its budget to present gifts for social beneficiaries.
