(VOVworld) – An art performance on homeland’s sea and islands was held for the third time in Phu Quoc island district, Kien Giang province on Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh confirmed determination to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over its territorial waters and islands.

The program included songs about marine soldiers, and Vietnam’s sea and islands. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh called on people to unite to protect Vietnam’s sea and islands and support border soldiers who are defending the nation’s maritime sovereignty: “In order to boost Vietnam’s marine economy, it is essential to protect our sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over our territorial waters and islands. We need to confirm our undeniable sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelago. Vietnam is consistent in resolving disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means based on international law especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea”.

At the event, around 9 million USD was raised to build charity houses for soldiers and people in coastal and border areas. The Southwestern Steering Committee inaugurated 500 charity houses for officials and soldiers of difficult conditions on this occasion.
