(VOVworld) – The UK’s contribution to the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria is “strikingly modest” and the British government hasn’t got a clear military strategy.

In a report published Thursday, Rory Stewart, Chairman of the cross-party Defense Committee, expressed his shock about the inability or unwillingness of military chiefs to provide a clear and articulate statement of the UK’s objectives or strategic plan in Iraq.

The Committee strongly criticized British troops for participating in the operations against the IS without any intelligence information. This is the first time Britain has been involved in a US-led campaign without its own plan and intelligence information. Stewart urged the British government to do more to defeat IS militants and to strengthen support for its allies by launching air strikes targeting the jihadists.
