Central provinces launch tree-planting festival

(VOVworld) - The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee launched a tree-planting festival at the Truong Bon historical relic site in Do Luong district in the central province of Nghe An, on Thursday with thousands of locals in attendance. The tree-planting festival, held at the onset of the New Year, is an annual tradition initiated by the late President Ho Chi Minh in 1959. The HCM Youth Union’s First Secretary, Nguyen Dac Vinh said the launch was held at Truong Bon, where a number of fierce battles against the US took place to pay homage to those soldiers and youth volunteers who laid down their lives for national independence and freedom. He called for concrete measures to limit deforestation, protect the environment, and clean water resources, and raise public awareness to help mitigate climate change impacts.
