(VOVworld) – President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that China will always proceed from and aim at realizing, safeguarding, and developing the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of its people.
Xi made the remarks at a reception marking China’s 65th National Day at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s Central Committee and Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission. He said that during the 65 years, China has transitioned from a new democracy to socialism and broadened the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, turning socialism into a successful path and institutional system. He called for enhanced confidence in the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics as well as in its theory, system, and comprehensive reform.

Xi pointed out that for the future, China must adhere to building its CPC, make the Party manage the Party strictly, strengthen the Party’s self- purification, self-improvement, and self-innovation, and must never waver in its faith or separate itself from the people.
Regarding the relationship between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong and Macau, Xi reaffirmed that China will pursue a “one country, two systems” model and safeguard the long-term prosperity and stability of these two territories.
