Da Nang tops PCI 2014 ranking

(VOVworld) – Da Nang topped Vietnam Provincial Competitiveness Index 2014 ranking for the second consecutive year. The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced Thursday their annual report, according to which, Ho Chi Minh City rose to the fourth place behind Dong Thap and Lao Cai. The ten provinces with the best quality of management in 2014 included Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Long An, Thai Nguyen, Kien Giang, and Bac Ninh.
Hanoi ranked 26th and Dien Bien was at the bottom of the ranking. Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) President Vu Tien Loc said this is the first time in the past five years the business confidence index (BCI) has showed signs of recovery: "The report surveyed 11,500 domestic and foreign businesses. The encouraging 2014 PCI results signified the business community and foreign investors’ optimism about business and investment prospects and their positive views on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) potential for investment promotion and growth. US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius spoke at the ceremony to announce the report: "The PCI amplifies the voices of entrepreneurs, the domestic private sector, and foreign invested firms. Over the last 10 years, the PCI has played a widely-recognized role in advancing economic governance in Vietnam during the time when improvements in government’s governance have been critical to Vietnam’s ability to take all advantages of trade agreements like the US-Vietnam bilateral agreement and the World Trade Organization."

Ambassador Osius said the US pledges to continue to support Vietnam in promoting sustainable economic growth.
