Deputy PM engages in more bilateral meetings in Laos

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Singapore and Indonesia on Sunday on the sidelines of the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane.

Minh and Singaporean FM Vivian Balakrisnan expressed their pleasure at the development of the two countries’ strategic partnership, sharing a belief that the upcoming State-level visit of President Tran Dai Quang to Singapore will raise  bilateral ties to a higher level. The two sides agreed to continue long-term cooperative projects and hailed the proposed Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), which they said should give priority to new technology and connectivity. Vietnam and Singapore vowed to continue coordinating within the ASEAN framework and at regional and international forums, and to strengthen ASEAN solidarity and maintain ASEAN’s central role in ensuring peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

In another meeting, Deputy PM Minh and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi agreed to push measures to improve bilateral relations, increase the efficiency of visits, and boost cooperative mechanisms. The two agreed to maintain close coordination in ASEAN cooperative mechanisms and at regional and international forums.

At a meeting on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Thai Foreign minister Don Paramudwinai praised recent developments of bilateral ties.  Mr. Minh said Vietnamese fishermen were shot down in the Thailand’s waters on July 7 and July 9. He asked Thailand to work with Vietnam to investigate and deal with the case. The Thai Foreign Minister promised to work with Vietnam to deal with this case. Meeting with Filipino Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Mr. Minh congratulated the new Filipino government. The two ministers agreed to boost bilateral comprehensive cooperation.
