EU founding nations join efforts in resolving refugee crisis

(VOVworld) - The European Union (EU) and all its members should set aside selfish interests to tackle problems such as immigration and terrorism, a joint statement said after foreign ministers of the six founding countries of the European Economic Community met in Rome.

Refugee crisis was high on the agenda as the EU has not agreed on a policy to resolve issues concerning the socio-economy, security threatened by the escalating influx of refugees. Participants said the crisis not only worsens terrorism and social instability but also raises differences among EU members while mid and east Europe strongly opposed quotas for migrants.
