(VOVworld) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received Minority leader of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and the US delegation attending IPU 132 in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Chairman Hung, who is also the IPU’s president, thanked the US for its support for Vietnam in maintaining stability, security, and peace and calling on financial and investment organizations to cooperate with Vietnam. He said he believed that through dialogue, partnership, cooperation between the two legislatures and governments, and exchange of visits, bilateral cooperation would prosper.

Pelosi said the US and Vietnam had great potential to upgrade their strategic partnership. She called for continued cooperation in recovering from the consequences of war with a priority on mine clearances. Both sides agreed to increase visit exchanges, share their experiences in legislation and supervision, and expand cooperation in economics, trade, and culture with the aim of bringing two-way trade to 40 billion USD. Both sides also agreed to step up negotiations on the early signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).
