Foreign Ministry: Vietnamese’s legitimate rights and interests ensured

(VOVworld) – At a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday, Le Hai Binh, a spokesman for Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, announced a number of activities of Vietnam’s external relations in the time to come and answered the questions of media’s concern.

In regards of reporters’ queries about Vietnam’s citizen protection following Cambodia’s plan to relocate Vietnamese in Tonle Sap (Great Lake), which worried several poor, Binh said the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia has been working closely with relevant Cambodian authorities to assist the Vietnamese community living in the area.

Relating to Vietnam’s fishing boats shot by the Thai Coast Guard killing one, Binh said Vietnamese relevant agencies are keeping close eyes on the development of the case and have asked for Thailand’s investigation.

Binh said that “Vietnamese Foreign Ministry has sent a diplomatic note to the Thai embassy in Hanoi and the Vietnamese embassy in Bangkok met the Thai Foreign Ministry to strongly condemn Thailand’s fatal shooting on Vietnamese fishermen.”

He added that “recently a Thai delegation involving in representatives of Thai Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Royal Thai Police, Royal Thai Navy, and National Security Council have worked with Vietnam’s relevant agencies.”

“At separate working sessions, Vietnam had strongly condemned the shootings by Thai marine police and demanded Thailand to promptly investigate and handle Thai individuals involving in the case, properly compensate for human and property losses of Vietnamese fishermen. Thailand was also requested to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Thailand has committed to investigating the case and will soon provide Vietnam the outcome. The Thai Prime Minister issued an instruction on the investigation of the case,” according to the Vietnamese spokesperson.

In reply to reporters’ question regarding a recent case of Vietnamese workers being abused by employers in Algeria, Binh said Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria has taken appropriate intervention measures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese workers there.
