(VOVworld) – Japanese and Indian media gave wide coverage to China’s withdrawal of oil rig Haiyang 981 from Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. Japanese Daily newspaper Sankei ran an article on Thursday entitled “China had to withdraw its oil rig due to international pressure and China’s miscalculations”. According to the article, Vietnam has gained strong support from the international public while Southeast Asian Nations are losing their trust in China. Earlier, Japanese Kyodo news agency on Wednesday gave coverage to Chinese state-owned energy company’s announcement which said the company had completed its exploration drilling. China’s early withdrawal of its oil rig indicates China’s efforts to ease the situation. Meanwhile, Japanese news website Yomirui reported that the move showed Beijing’s wish to end its oil rig related activities ahead of the Asian Regional Forum in August. Indian newspaper “The Times of India” reported on Friday that China’s move has reduced risks of clashes but can not restore Chinese-Vietnamese bilateral ties.
