French national Herve Pierre Gourdel was executed by the Jund al-Khilifa militant group in eastern Algeria on Wednesday.

A statement released Thursday by the French Foreign Ministry said it has expanded its list of unsafe countries from 31 to 40, including several Asian countries. Italy raised its alert level to maximum alert for the second time since the September 11 attacks. Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said the IS threat is serious, but Italy is ready to deal with it.
55-year-old French mountaineering guide Herve Pierre Gourdel was abducted by the Jund al-Khilifa militant group in Tizi Ouzou, eastern Algeria, and was executed on Wednesday. The French citizen’s execution occurred after IS urged other militant groups to attack citizens of anti-IS coalition members. France said it will increase support for Syrian security forces to combat IS and will strengthen security in public places, like train stations. French President Francois Hollande announced 3 days of national mourning beginning Thursday.
