Friendship Order conferred on AmCham Governor in Vietnam

(VOVworld) – Vietnam’s Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh presented the President’s Friendship Order to Virginia Foote, Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, in Washington DC on June 23. The award was in recognition of Foote's active contribution to the normalization and development of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the US.

Co-founding the US-Viet Nam Trade Council in 1989, Virginia Foote was a pioneer in persuading the US Government and Congress to remove the trade embargo against Vietnam and move towards the normalization and development of bilateral relations. As a Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam Virginia Foote has continued to promote Vietnam’s businesses to America and support Vietnamese businesses in international integration.

At the order giving ceremony, Ms. Foote said that relations between the US and Vietnam have developed a pace. She said the two countries should resolve issues hanging over from the war aftermath while building a prosperous future together.
