(VOVworld) – A memorial park will be built in Khanh Hoa province to pay tribute to 64 fallen combatants in a 1988 battle at Gac Ma island, to protect the country’s sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in the East Sea. The Khanh Hoa provincial authorities will reserve 2 hectares of land along the route connecting Nha Trang City with Cam Ranh airport and Naval Zone No.4 to build the park. Ho Chi Minh City’s Architectural Association will open a contest to choose the best design for the park.

The park is expected to satisfy desires of people nationwide to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the defense of national maritime sovereignty.
