On Monday, Turkey summoned Germany's ambassador Eberhard Pohl and demanded an explanation after an "unacceptable, inexcusable" report that Germany's foreign intelligence agency carried out espionage targeting Turkish officials.

Government spokeswoman Christiane Wirtz said only that in July the government informed a parliamentary intelligence committee about some of the matters in the report and would soon inform it about the rest. The committee is sworn to secrecy.

The German government hasn’t confirmed whether BND is operating in Turkey or not.
