(VOVworld) - Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, who is living in exile in Qatar, said on Wednesday he is ready for a truce in Gaza to create conditions for humanitarian activities in Gaza strip.
But he reiterated that a comprehensive ceasefire can’t be accepted until an agreement on Hamas’ proposed conditions is reached. Speaking at a press briefing in Qatar, Meshaal said Hamas’s requirements in exchange for a comprehensive ceasefire which included the opening of Gaza's borders and an end to the seven-year blockade by Israel and Egypt, were legitimate.
Hamas senior official also said there had been progress in negotiations to end the on-going conflict at Gaza, stressing that Hamas needs Israel’s assurance about lifting the blockade at Gaza before signing any agreements. US Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed there had been progress in negotiations on a ceasefire, but added that there was still work to do.
