Hanoi traditional craft village tourism and culture festival 2015 opens

(VOVworld) – 300 pavilions representing 22 traditional craft villages across Vietnam are showcasing their products at a festival which opened in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Themed "Traditional quintessence - Integration and Spread", the annual festival promotes the traditional culture and handicraft villages of Vietnam, and this year is celebrating the 61st anniversary of the capital’s Liberation Day on October 10.

The festival will demonstrate the processes involved in making traditional craft items.

Activities honoring traditional craft villages and outstanding artisans, performances of traditional theatre, music, and dance, folk games, and traditional cuisine will round out the festivities.

Artisan Phung Anh Trung, the owner of a workshop that makes traditional musical instruments in Dao Xa village, said that “through this festival, I hope Vietnam’s traditional musical instruments and Dao Xa brand-name will be widely introduced. Musical instruments made by Dao Xa villagers will have a chance to go worldwide.”


To Van Dong, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said at the opening ceremony that“traditional craft villages have received the benefit of growing efforts to protect them and tap their potential contribution to national socio-economic development. Traditional craft villages have boosted the national economic restructuring, generated jobs, ensured social security, and contributed to Vietnam’s cultural heritage, and image.”

The festival will run through Sunday.
