At a joint press conference in New Delhi,
Modi said the deal was the centerpiece of bilateral cooperation between India and the US. President Obama confirmed that
they had achieved a breakthrough understanding. The US
signed a deal with India
in 2008 to provide civilian nuclear technology. But implementation has been
stalled by an Indian law making companies who build or supply the equipment
liable in case of an accident.
