Markets have convened since early morning while hundreds of offshore fishing vessels have come back ashore to sell seafood and welcome Tet.

Phung Xuan Lieu of An Hai village said it’s the time for many Ly Son fishermen to organize thanks-giving ceremonies to express their gratitude for a lucky year.

“It’s our custom that when Tet comes, we should return ashore to welcome Tet and get together with family members. Besides we have to be back to the shore to sell seafood and re-arrange fishing boats in preparation for the next season,” said Hai.

Dang Minh Dien, a fisherman of Long Hai village in Phu Quy island district in Binh Thuan province, shared his wish in 2016: “like other fishermen in Phu Quy Island, we hope our products will be sold stably while the petrol price will also be stable. We hope the government will promulgate more policies to help us continue offshore fishing.”
