Libyan interim Prime Minister: GNC meeting was illegitimate

(VOVworld) – Libyan Interim Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani has condemned a meeting of the Libyan out-going Parliament, the General National Congress, in which they elected a new Prime Minister, calling the meeting illegitimate. Al-Thani insisted that the legislative agency which was voted for by Libyan voters on June 25 to replace the GNC was the only legal Parliament.

The 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Neighbouring Countries of Libya introduced a joint initiative calling for the Libyan militants’ disarmament and in support of the newly-elected Parliament, in order to stabilise Libya. The initiative includes counter-terrorism activities, drafting a new constitution, and supporting the Libyan Army and security forces.
A Libyan coastguard official said on Monday that rescuers had found some 170 bodies of shipwreck victims. The incident occurred last Friday when the ship, carrying 200 illegal migrants from Sub-Sahara Africa, was sunk off the coast of Guarabouli, 60 kilometres east from Tripoli.
