Amid escalating conflicts in Libya, Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, head of the Overseas Labour Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said the ministry has proposed to the government measures to ensure safety for Vietnamese workers in Libya. He noted the Ministry has also asked functional authorities to evacuate the workers in emergency cases. There are about 1,800 Vietnamese workers in Libya, 200 of them are in Tripoli and Benghazi.
Nguyen Duc Nam, Deputy Director-General of the International Manpower Supply and Trade Company (SONA), said on Tuesday 79 of the 500 workers whom the company sent to Libya have flown back to Vietnam. The remaining workers will return to Vietnam or work in other countries. The workers have been working in Libya for between 4 and 17 months.
