(VOVworld)- Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung headed a delegation of the Ministry of Defense and some other ministries and sectors visiting Con Dao island district of Ba Ria Vung Tau province on Sunday.

The delegation inspected the socio-economic and national defense situation in the district. At a meeting with local leaders, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung asked the district to focus more on boosting the marine economy and protect the primitive forest on the island. He stressed the need to pay more attention to preserving values of Con Dao Revolutionary Historical Relic Site.

To mark the occasion, the delegation offered incense at Con Dao Temple, visited Hang Duong cemetery, and presented gifts to local people and soldiers stationed on the island. A cultural exchange between the Military Arts and Culture University and civilians and soldiers on the island was held on Friday. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Anh Quoc is of the Military Command Committee of Con Dao district: "Everyone participating in the exchange was very happy. Songs in praise of the revolution and soldiers made us very proud and moved. They encouraged us to stay firm to defend national sea and islands”.
