National Assembly Chairman’s activities in New York

(VOVworld) – National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. At a reception for Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang, Mr. Hung said he hoped that both countries’ legislatures would expand delegation exchanges and increase information and experience sharing.

He also called for greater cooperation at regional and global parliamentary forums and increased mutual understanding, trust, and solidarity in order to create a solid social foundation for bilateral ties. Concerning the East Sea issue, he urged the two sides to abide by agreements reached by their leaders on controlling disputes at sea and maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea. He said that the two sides should seriously implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and work closely together with ASEAN countries toward formulating a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

During a meeting with the Chairman of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft, Mr. Hung said he hoped the spirit of the Hanoi Declaration would be reflected in the document from the UN Summit following the approval of the post-2015 Development Agenda. Lykketoft said he hoped Vietnam’s National Assembly would continue to contribute to the implementation of the UN’s goals for peace and prosperity throughout the region and the world.

During a meeting with the President of the Inter-parliamentary Union Saber Chowdhury, Mr. Hung said Vietnam’s National Assembly would continue to revise laws to promote the implementation of the UN’s post-2015 Development Agenda and sustainable development goals. Mr. Saber said that he hoped Vietnam would contribute more to the IPU’s activities in the future.

Mr. Hung also met with the Speaker of Belarus’ Lower House Vladimir Andreichenko on the same day. They urged increased bilateral cooperation in economics and trade. Mr. Andreichenko called for increased experience sharing between the two legislatures and mutual understanding and information sharing in legislative work and supervision.
