(VOVworld) – An advisory council of Vietnam’s National Steering on Climate Change made its debut at a ceremony in Hanoi on Thursday. The council is expected to provide the government with consultations regarding guidelines, policies, and technical issues to deal with climate change and support green growth. Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Tran Hong Ha, stressed the importance of raising public awareness on climate change mitigation while improving institutions, state apparatus, policies, and mobilizing resources for this issue. He said: "The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the advisory council to the National Steering Committee on Climate Change will issue timely and accurate reports on climate change mitigation to help the government define appropriate socio-economic development strategies."

At the event, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced the “Viet Nam Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation (SREX Viet Nam).” The report proposes a series of actions to deal with increasing risks posed by climate change, improve early alarm systems, and prepare better planning for urban spaces, infrastructure, and housing.
