National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction wins in parliamentar elections

The Technical Secretariat for Elections Support (STAE) released Sunday an official result of the Timor-Leste’s parliamentary elections, in which the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction led, winning 36.66 percent of total votes or 31 seats in the 65-seat National Parliament.

STAE said the major opposition party - Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor, came second with 29.87 percent of the votes or 24 seats in the parliament. The Democratic Party, a member of the ruling-coalition, came third, winning 8 seats, while the Frente-Mudanca party won 2 seats. With this result, incumbent Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao will be re-elected.
