Overseas Vietnamese protest China’s illegal actions in the East Sea

(VOVworld) – Overseas Vietnamese in Cuba organized meetings to protest China’s illegal placement of Haiyang 981 oil rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. Chairman of the overseas Vietnamese Association in Cuba, Mai Thao, strongly condemned China's ignoring public opinions and its seriously violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction. They requested China to stop its provocative activities, withdraw its oil rig and escort vessels from Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. On this occasion, overseas Vietnamese in Cuba launched campaigns to support Vietnamese marine police and marine surveillance officers.

Earlier, 50 students and overseas Vietnamese in Barcelona, Spain, held demonstrations at Cataluña Square. The protesters signed a letter requesting that China immediately pull the oil rig and its escort vessels out of Vietnam’s waters and respect Vietnam’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, as well as international law. The letter was delivered to the Chinese Embassy in Madrid and the Chinese Consulate General in Barcelona. The Vietnamese International Student Association in West Australia (VISAWA) organized a fund-raising program to support Vietnamese marine police who are protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea.
