(VOVworld) – Vietnam considers the United States one of its top partners, said Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong while receiving President Pro Tempore of the US Senate Patrick Leahy on Thursday in Hanoi.

Mr. Trong highlighted Vietnam’s consistent external policies of independence, self-control, peace, cooperation and development, multilateral and diversified relations, and active international integration. He suggested the promotion of Vietnam-US ties at all levels, asking the US to enhance its cooperation with Vietnam in existing fields while continuing to support Vietnam to heal the war wounds, especially in dealing with unexploded mines and ordnance, and supporting Vietnamese Agent Orange dioxin victims.
