Philippine President concludes visit to Vietnam

(VOVworld) – President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte left Hanoi on Friday to concluding an official visit to Vietnam from September 28-29 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

During the visit, President Duterte laid wreaths at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs, held talks with President Tran Dai Quang, paid a courtesy visit to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and attended a banquet hosted by President Tran Dai Quang.
The leaders expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation between their countries over the past 40 years.
They agreed to organize activities to mark the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties this year and improve political and diplomatic relations by exchanging delegations at all levels. They underscored the need to fully tap all potentials for cooperation, especially Vietnam’s stable supply of rice to the Philippines. The two countries pledged to promote their cooperation mechanisms and promptly sign agreements on extradition and transfer of prisoners.

The leaders discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern, pledging to maintain peace, security, stability, freedom of navigation and overflight, and unobstructed trade at sea, and urging all parties to practice restraint, not threaten to use force, fully respect diplomatic procedures, and resolve disputes by peaceful means based on international law.
