(VOVworld)- On Monday, having received 98.18% of the votes, the 14^th National Assembly elected Tran Dai Quang, a Politburo member, as President of Vietnam for the 2016 – 2021 tenure.

In his inaugural address, President Tran Dai Quang promised to devote himself to serving the Fatherland and the people. He will closely coordinate with the NA, the Government and relevant agencies to perform his duties. President Tran Dai Quang said:“I will proactively engage in fine-tuning the legal system, and improve the effective management of the socialist law-governed State, which is of the people, by the people and for the people”.

The President also pledged to ensure the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern armed forces so as to firmly safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with political stability and peace in the interest of national development.  

Speaking to VOV after the President’s swearing-in ceremony, deputy Nguyen Trong Nghia of Tien Giang province said: “I highly appreciate the President’s swearing-in speech. The President pointed out the two strategic tasks of national construction and defense. The President is the one who lead the armed forces. The President’s speech reflects the determination of the Party, the people, and the state to defend the nation”.
