(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang inspected socio-economic development and national defense and security in An Giang province on Wednesday. As Vietnam’s rice bowl, the province has a strategic position in terms of national defense and security in the southwestern border.

President Sang overhauled the province’s agricultural restructuring and the Tinh Bien international border gate with Cambodia’s Ta Keo province. He asked provincial leaders to maintain the pace of growth and focus on local competitive products such as rice, wood products, and fruits. He noted that agricultural restructuring should take into consideration the application of technological advances to improve product value.

Earlier, President Sang visited Long Xuyen diocese to extend his new year greetings to local catholic dignitaries and followers. He informed them of Vietnam’s foreign policy including relations with the Vatican and said he hoped the local dignitaries would contribute more to national construction and development.
