Presidential election candidate Subianto challenges election results

(VOVworld) - Former general Prabowo Subianto, who lost Indonesia's presidential election to Joko Widodo, has filed a lawsuit against the election result, alleging the counting of votes was mishandled. The spokesman for Subianto’s election campaign, Zadli Zon said they had filed a legal challenge to the Constitutional Court together with evidence of cheating from 52,000 polling stations. Lawyer Firman Wijaya, head of Subianto’s election campaign, said the move is totally in accordance with the Indonesian Constitution.

Earlier, Constitutional Court Secretary General, Janedjri Gaffar, affirmed that former General Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasatold have the rights to file a lawsuit until Friday, adding that there would be a hearing over the case 3 days later with a verdict expected to be announced within the next 14 days. But Indonesian Minister of Justice and Human Rights Amir Syamsudin said that it’s not easy for Subianto to reverse the situation as the difference of 8 million voting ballots is too huge in comparison with any possible violations found.
