Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung receives former US President Bill Clinton

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Friday received visiting former US President Bill Clinton who is in Vietnam to examine the implementation of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) funded by the Clinton Foundation that aims to prevent tuberculosis among children with HIV.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung spoke highly of the practical charitable activities of the fund and former President Bill Clinton’s work in Vietnam which has helped the country in the effort to prevent HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. The Prime Minister said he hopes the foundation will grow steadily while voicing his government’s readiness to create favorable conditions for its operations.

Former president Clinton’s visit to Vietnam coincided with the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the normalization of Vietnam-US relations. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung praised President Clinton for his support and courageous decision to normalize relations with Vietnam during his time in office. He added Vietnam always wanted to join with the US to further develop bilateral ties to comprehensive cooperative partnership status as the leaders of both countries had agreed.

President Clinton expressed his belief that, with their best support and influence, Bill Clinton and his wife, Hilary, will continue to support and contribute to Vietnam-US relations for both parties’ mutual benefit. He said both the US’s Democratic and Republican Parties were agreed on being friends of Vietnam.

In terms of the Clinton Foundation’s activities in Vietnam, the former President said that the fund would provide maximum support for Vietnam in combating HIV/ AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases, and is ready to work with other agencies and businesses on producing HIV/AIDS treatment drugs in Vietnam.
