(VOVworld) – Russia’s news agency TASS reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his satisfaction at the fine development of Russian-Cuban relations and said he was glad to welcome Cuban President Raul Castro to Moscow.

Putin said the meeting with President Castro marks 55 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties.

The Cuban leader thanked President Putin for the invitation. The visit also marks the 70th anniversary of Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany, celebrated as Russia’s May 9 Victory.

Castro said commemorative celebrations are also underway in Cuba.

Castro met with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday and will attend celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II on Saturday.
