(VOVworld) – The Republic of Korea has approved private humanitarian aid to North Korea, said an official on Thursday, in the latest assistance to Pyongyang despite lingering tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The government is allowing the Medical Aid for Children private aid group to ship fever reducers, cold medicine and other medical supplies worth 227,000 USD to a children's hospital in Pyongyang. The planned shipment brought the total amount of assistance to the North by South Korea's private aid groups to more than 2 million USD this year.

On Wednesday, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said it would use around 700,000 USD to help improve the livelihoods and resilience of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korean people to deal with disasters.
