(VOVworld) – State President Truong Tan Sang attended Friday the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (known as the Bandung Conference) in Jakarta, Indonesia along with Heads of State, Prime Ministers and delegation heads from Asian and African nations.

The leaders took a historic walk to Gedung Merdeka or the Independence Building, the same route of the then Asian-African leaders at their first summit in 1955 walked from their residence to the meeting venue, where they recalled the journey of Asian and African countries have gone through over the last 60 years.

In his speech, Indonesian President Joko Widodo highlighted the significance of the 1955 Bangdung Conference, the value of Bangdung spiritual immortality and the ten Bangdung principles that should be respected. More than ever, the Asian – African community must unite and work together for peace, prosperity and for a fairer world.

On this occasion, President Sang met with former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri who hailed Vietnam’s participation at Bandung Conference in 1955 as a country that had defeated colonialism, setting a bright example for national liberation movements in Asia and Africa. She reiterated her support to increasing Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership as well as bilateral traditional friendship.

During talks with Myanmar’s President Thein Sein, President Sang said Vietnam attaches great importance to strengthening ties with Myanmar. The two leaders agreed on speeding up bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the organization of the 7th session of political consultations and the 8th session of the Vietnam – Myanmar Joint Committee for Bilateral Cooperation this year. They also stressed the importance for both countries to closely coordinate at regional and international forums.
