Addressing a State banquet in Hanoi on Wednesday evening in honor of the visiting Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, President Quang described cultural similarities, historical bonds and interests between the two peoples as a solid foundation for bilateral ties.

He said Vietnam and Japan are not only extensive strategic partners but also sincere friends sharing joys and griefs together.

He said that Vietnam treasures the Japanese nation, culture, and people, especially the Japanese efforts in national development and contributions to global peace and prosperity.

President Quang stressed that Vietnam considers Japan an important long-term partner and close friend, and said the partnership benefits both peoples and bolsters regional peace.

Emperor Akihito expressed his thanks for the warm welcome of the Vietnamese people and said he hopes the visit will further strengthen the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
