At a press conference, Muallem expressed Damascus’ support for Iraq in the war on terrorism and also hailed the Iraqi army’s victory in the city of Fallujah. Jaafari said he hoped to strengthen cooperation with Syria and Arab countries on counterterrorism issues in the region, adding that the most efficient way to tackle terrorism was promoting unity between the two countries in military affairs, the economy, services, and foreign affairs.
Earlier, the Syrian Foreign Minister held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on securing their common border after a partial retreat by Islamic State militants.
